Do guys really do this? Do they jackoff before the date? I guess it would prevent any "pop-up" problems if you know what I mean. And reduce the urge to have sex as soon as you meet the women in question.

Yes, two reasons: One, To help you relax and take your entire focus off of sex. This lets you get to know the woman instead of jockeying to get in her pants all night. And Two, so if you do get lucky, you will last a lot longer. Impress her with your stamina, right out of the gate. This is more of a first and second date thing
