Girlie Commercials...

I'm a girl (shocking, I know).  I'm very comfortable with my body and the cycles it goes through.  What I'm not comfortable with are all the damn commercials on television these days for all the products that women have to use during these "cycles."  I will refrain from using the actual terms for those male readers - I know you are out there.

How many commercials do there need to be on television for birthcontrol.  Does the tune... "Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday..." ring a bell?  Really, a description that says, vaginal birth control really need to be said on TELEVISION?  Of course, I'm not really a fan of all the ads for tampons, and pads and all that either.  Seriously, don't they all do basically the same job?  Do we really need to advertise the hell out of them on tv?  I honestly, get a little embarrassed when the commercials come on, and I'm super comfortable with my body - it's just the fact that they are saying that shit out loud and there are other people in the room that might not be comfortable with the subject matter!

What really gets me is the "newest" tampon release is the U brand  - I copied the ad here.  It's supposed to be the luxury and exciting new different and exciting designer brand.  In reality it's just the Kotex reaching out with new colored packages and putting out "sexy" ads for a very unsexy time of the month.  Except - wait for it - they are colorful and add extra designs - as if you needed that.  Sounds about as helpful as the new designer diapers that are colored to look like baby jeans but cost twice as much.

And while I'm on the subject - how about the ads for cialis and Viagra?  Really??  The warning about having an erection that last for FOUR HOURS??  OK, first if you have an erection that lasts for four hours, you have bigger problems (and a highly annoyed woman!).  But do I really need to hear that on television.  Even worse is when they get a spokesperson that we KNOW talking about how he likes the Viagra, and he's usually older - it just makes it so awkward!  I'm obviously not one to shy away from sex, but this is network television.  If I want to hear about sex I want it to be on a place where I'm prepared for it - not where I could be in a room with mixed company (like someone I don't know very well!)  Or someone who doesn't know the "real" me.  Hell, someone who still thinks that I'm as pure as I look - those people still exist that think I'm a good girl - they are foolish - but they exist.

I don't want to see the commercials on television relating to any medical issues either.  Since when do we have to advertise Rx drugs?  Shouldn't your doctor just prescribe those and not you tell your doctor which prescriptions to write - yeah, that bugs me too.  Yes, a lot of things bug me - that's why i write this blog.
